Sport Science
Advancing athlete performance through science.
At the High Performance Sport Institute (HPSI), our Sport Scientists translate scientific evidence and data into real-world performance, helping Singapore’s national athletes perform and excel at the highest level.
Our multidisciplinary team brings together expertise across Strength and Conditioning, Physiology, Nutrition, Psychology, Biomechanics, Performance Analysis, Sport Technology, and Injury Management. Together, we turn diverse expertise into integrated support, empowering athletes to compete at the highest level.
Our Core Disciplines:
Research & Innovation
Translating scientific evidence into real-world performance.
Our Sport Scientists translate existing evidence and generate new knowledge into practical insights to enhance training, recovery, and competition strategies. Guided by a strong governance framework and specific sporting needs, our research is efficiently translated into practice to advance high performance.
Strength & Conditioning
Building Strength, Power, Speed, and Resilience.
Strength and Conditioning supports athletes and coaches in developing the physical qualities required for high-level performance. Our Strength and Conditioning practitioners work closely with coaches to design and deliver sport-specific training programmes that support physical robustness throughout the season.
Sport Physiology
Powering Peak Physical Condition.
Sport Physiology aids athletes and coaches in understanding how the body responds and adapts to training and competition. Using a range of performance testing, training load monitoring, and recovery assessment methods, our Sport Physiologists provide insights to optimise training and prepare athletes for the physiological demands of their sport, including specific conditions such as heat and altitude.
Sport Nutrition
Fuelling Performance & Recovery.
Sport Nutrition helps athletes and coaches understand and optimise nutrition to support training, competition, recovery, and adaptation. This includes strategies for macronutrient and micronutrient intake, hydration, everyday eating, travel, and competition periods.
Sport Psychology
Building Mental Toughness Under Pressure.
Sport Psychology supports athletes and coaches to optimise psychological skills such as resilience, focus and confidence to support performance under pressure, consistency in training and competition, and effective team and coach-athlete environments.
Sport Biomechanics
Optimising Movement & Mechanics.
Sport Biomechanics helps athletes and coaches understand and optimise movement for performance. Through movement analysis using technologies such as 3D motion capture and force plates, our Sport Scientists provide practical insights to refine technique, improve movement efficiency, and reduce injury risk.
Performance Analysis
Data-Driven Tactical Insights.
Performance Analysis helps athletes and coaches understand and evaluate performance in training and competition using video and data, providing actionable insights to inform decision-making, optimise preparation, and enhance performance outcomes.
Sport Technology
Understanding Performance Data.
Sports Technology supports athletes and coaches by developing systems that enable efficient collection, integration, and management of performance data. This provides coaches and practitioners the ability to provide timely feedback.
Injury Management
Reducing Injury Risk and Managing Recovery.
Injury Management works closely with athletes and coaches to support rehabilitation and return to training, ensuring that athletes are ready to meet the demands of their sport safely and effectively.
SSMC @ HPSI
Providing Coordinated Medical Care
The Sport Science and Sport Medicine (SSMC) team provides medical care to support athlete health, readiness, and availability for training and competition. Working closely with Injury Management and other Sport Science disciplines, the team delivers coordinated care across training and major competitions, supporting athletes to perform at their best.
